SBA Disaster Loan Assistance Center Opens Wednesday, March 22 in Hinds County20 March 2006
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announces the opening of a Disaster Loan Assistance Center in Hinds County to assist Hurricane Katrina victims with their applications. The Center located in the Mississippi Family Council/Catholic Charities Building, 530 George Street (between Congress & President Streets) in Jackson, Mississippi, opens Wednesday, March 22 and will remain open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., until further notice. "Providing individual help is an important part of what we do to help people recover from a disaster," said Frank Skaggs, Director of SBA Field Operations Center - East. "We also want to remind disaster victims, it is not necessary to wait on the result of insurance claims before returning your completed SBA disaster loan application." For an individual with personal property and/or home losses, a completed application will also keep the door open to other types of assistance. Those homeowners and renters who do not return a completed SBA application may be denying themselves other types of assistance, including possible grants. Even if you have insurance, you should call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) and register for assistance. This one call will get you referred to the agency best able to meet your disaster-related needs. Anyone unable to visit the Disaster Loan Assistance Center may obtain an application by calling the SBA National Customer Service Center at 1-800-659- 2955 (for the hearing-impaired 1-800-877-8339): Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., EST. Applications may be obtained, completed and returned to SBA Disaster Loan Assistance Center or mailed to: U.S. Small Business Administration, National Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76155. The deadline for physical damage applications is April 10, 2006; the deadline for economic injury applications is May 29, 2006.
